“LEARNING WITHOUT THINKING IS POINTLESS. THINKING WITHOUT LEARNING IS DANGEROUS.”

My daughter, Zi Xi, joined Mr Wong’s IP English tuition just last year. Since young, she had no interest in the English language as it was her weakest subject and her results were subpar. Coming under Mr Wong tutelage, I noticed that she started developing an interest in the English language. Mr Wong’s passion for teaching is manifested through his meticulously crafted teaching materials and his enthusiasm is keenly felt by his students. His IP English tuition incorporates the discussion of current affairs which cultivates the students’ critical thinking. He also constantly encourages his students to formulate their own ideas and opnions while respecting them as they posit them during class disussions. It is through these engaging teaching methodologies that Zi Xi’s attitude towards English has changed. She now enjoys reading and and is more attentive to current affairs, even forming her own individual opinion on various global issues. As the saying goes, “Learning without thinking is pointless, thinking without learning is dangerous.” Zi Xi has since steadily to an A grade. I am really grateful for Mr Wong guidance.

MR WONG LOOKS AFTER EACH STUDENT AND TREATS THEM AS HIS OWN

Prior to joining Mr Wong’s General Paper tuition class, my daughter, Yanwen, did not attend any IP English or General Paper (GP) tuition classes. Thus, she has always been weaker in her GP, especially the essay writing component. For her GP Promo at the end of J1, she only managed to squeeze out a C grade. That was when I sought advice from a very experienced parent whose son is in Raffles Institution and she recommended The Rationale Thinking Learning Centre to me. It took me much effort to convince Yanwen to go for the GP trial class. However, to my surprise, that trial class changed Yanwen’s mind and she decided to carry on with the regular GP tuition classes.

During her General Paper Prelim exam, she managed to get an A! I can still remember when she brought back her GP paper, she shared with me how she managed to write and structure her GP essay which is something she used to struggle with. She is now able to write with many ideas and from various perspectives. I asked her if this was due to Mr Wong’s General Paper tuition lesson that helped her during this exam, and without any hesitation, she gave me a definite “Yes!”. She also shared how Mr Wong helped her to realise that GP is actually a very interesting subject and even praised him for treating his students like his own children, caring for each of them.

As a parent, I am rejoicing at my daughter’s improvement in her General Paper. I am delighted that Yanwen met such a great teacher! In the end, Yanwen scored an A at the final ‘A’ Level GP exam as she brought in her new found interest and confidence for the General Paper into the exam hall!

Effective teaching methodology that helped my son improve so quickly.

Although my son is in the GEP class in Hwa Chong Institution (HCI), he has always been weak in the language subjects and his grades hovered around B3-B4. However, after joining Mr Wong’s IP English tuition class in January, he managed to score an A2 in his March IP English examination, just short of 1 mark to clinching an A1. I remember seeing him bring his IP English exam paper back home excitedly as this was his first time achieving such a high grade. Mr Wong’s teaching methodology is very effective and I am very grateful for his coaching that helped my son improve tremendously in such a short time.

“A teacher who can inspire, empower and instil the love of learning is like a rare gem.”

An English tutor who can inspire, empower and instil the love of learning is like a rare gem. I am glad that my daughter has had the good fortune to find an English tutor who can help her. Mr Edwin Wong is very passionate about what he does. I do hope that he will continue to help more students to excel not just in their academics, but as well as in their love for the language.

“My two boys are excited to bring home what they have learnt from their lessons”

Mr Edwin Wong speaks well and teaches well. He is the archetypal star English tutor with an amiable disposition. My two children have been attending his English tuition class for the past year. My elder son, Ryan, thoroughly relished the lessons taught. The English tuition curriculum conducted by Mr Wong adopts a holistic approach. It has helped my sons to improve their communication skills, creative writing, vocabulary and grammar. It has broadened their horizon!

My younger son, Shaun, dislikes tuition because he feels that it is a waste of time and money. However, he doesn’t mind attending Mr Wong’s English tuition because he consistently delivers a high-quality learning experience. The lessons are enriched with both local and international current affairs and are simplified that the students are able to relate them easily. Since attending Mr Wong’s English tuition, Shaun has shown confidence in his command of English and his English has jumped by two grades within a short time.

Often, my two boys are excited to bring home what they have learnt from their lessons and share it during mealtimes! As a parent, I feel assured that my children are in good hands. I will continue to send my two boys to Mr Wong’s English tuition and recommend you to send yours too.

Behind every young child who believes in himself is a parent who believed first.

Initially, when Yuxin told me he wanted to attend Mr Wong’s English tuition class, I was very hesitant as he had not been interested in the English language since a young age. However, we know that English is very important so we have been telling him to read but he just simply refuses to do so and I can see from his grades that he wasn’t doing well. As parents, we understand that English is the most important subject as it helps with other subjects such as Geography and History, where you have to write fluently to get the grades you want.

Since he had this interest to join Mr Wong’s English tuition programme, I decided to give it a try. After joining his class, I’m quite surprised that within a few months, Yuxin’s vocabulary has improved.

For the past one year that he has been with Mr Wong, his English grades improved tremendously. Most importantly I can see a change in his character. Which is something that is quite surprising to me.

I would think that English tuition is just to improve your command of English, so what has it got to do with your character? I believe the stories and current affairs he shares have inspired the students, especially my son. I feel very grateful because Yuxin had never been so interested in his studies but now he even goes out of his way to buy books to read. I am very grateful for what Mr Wong has done for Yuxin and I’m very glad that I’ve enrolled him for Mr Wong’s English tuition.

FAQ about our General Paper and IP English tuition programmes

What tuition programmes are offered at The Rationale Thinking?

The Rationale Thinking Learning Centre currently offers you two unique tuition programmes to choose from –  ‘A’ Level General Paper tuition and the IP English tuition. Find out more about our unique approach to our tuition curriculum here.

Why is there a need for General Paper Tuition and IP English Tuition?

The preponderance of students in Singapore struggle with mastering the Language subjects. However, the English language is arguably the most important subject in Singapore as it is our lingua franca. Furthermore, the daily use of Singapore Colloquial English (commonly known as Singlish) is exacerbating this problem further. As a language specialist, we aim to tackle this prevalent issue. A strong foundation in the English language is vital to acing other subjects such as General Paper, Humanities, Mathematics, Science, etc. and ultimately getting coveted placements in Ivy League Universities.

Here at The Rationale Thinking Learning Centre, we specialise in coaching our students in the English Language and General Paper. Our specially curated curriculum aims to break down the complexity and technicalities of mastering the English language and General Paper to give our students the confidence to attain their Distinctions.

Why should I join The Rationale Thinking?

The Rationale Thinking Learning Centre prides itself in not just enabling our students to score Distinctions for the ‘A’ Level General Paper and the IP English examinations, but we also firmly believe in moulding the next generation to become Global Thinkers. With our carefully curated in-house notes assembled by our dedicated research team, we train and impart our students with the skills and knowledge that are not taught in school. Not forgetting to build up a good character to prepare them for their future careers in the world’s leading industries.

For a start, we offer all prospective students of The Rationale Thinking one trial lesson*. More details about our trial lesson can be found here.

Are your tuition classes conducted in a group setting or individual tuition?

Our General Paper and IP English tuition classes are conducted in a well-controlled group. Unlike Science and Mathematics, the IP English language and General Paper requires more than just rote learning of formulas. It is through the cross-fertilisation of ideas while studying for the language subjects that our students are exposed to various ideas, opinions and perspectives – the perfect environment that stimulates critical thinking. This will ultimately aid them in crafting a coherent essay during their examinations. While we aim to provide a broader view of the language subjects, we also refine the curriculum to suit our students’ needs, rectifying their weaker aspects and cementing their foundation before building upon it.

Who is the tutor?

Mr Edwin Wong personally coaches his students for both General Paper and IP English tuition programmes. He is a well sought-after English language specialist, revolutionary thinker and transformational teacher. He has helped numerous students achieve Distinctions in their IP English examinations and their ‘A’ Level General Paper and many of them have gone on to secure placements in competitive academic courses in local universities or obtained Public Service Commission (Overseas Scholarship) with Ivy-League Universities.

I am interested in the tuition programmes. Are trial lessons offered?
